The masseter muscle is found on the rear part of the cheek and spans from the cheekbone down to the lower jaw. This muscle connects the lower jawbone to the cheekbone and works to raise and close the jaw while chewing.

A prominent masseter muscle can contribute to the masculinization of a woman’s face. Typically, softer oval faces are considered to be the most attractive face shape for women.

A prominent masseter muscle can be genetics or caused by lifestyle or habitual tendencies such as regularly chewing gum or clenching your jaw. The masseter prominence can be reduced through use of Botox.

When to Consider Treatment:

  • Your massester is affecting your self-esteem or confidence and you would like to soften its appearance.

  • You also suffer from Bruxism (jaw clenching) that is contributing to the appearance of a prominent masseter.
