Acne is the occurrence of inflamed or infected sebaceous glands in the skin, causing red and sometimes painful bumps to appear on the skin. This term is commonly used to describe all types of congestion in the skin such as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and cysts. Acne typically appears on the face and neck but can also include shoulders, back, and arms.

Acne can be caused by a variety of things including overactive sebaceous (oil-producing) glands, dietary sensitivities, hormones, use of comedogenic or irritating products, and hereditary factors. During your consultation, your esthetician will ask you a variety of questions to try to identify the possible cause of your acne. This will allow your esthetician to recommend the most suitable treatment option or series of treatment options for your specific concerns.

Whatever the cause, however severe, acne can be managed effectively with a variety of medical treatment options including skincare, medical esthetics treatments, and in some cases medications.

A complimentary consultation is the best first step to have a customized treatment plan developed for you.
